Cultural competency programmes target practice by addressing skills, knowledge and attitudes to improve practice. Competent kaimahi will be more deliberate in utilising mātauranga Māori in their every-day practice to make a difference for whānau.
The Takarangi is a metaphor for integrated practice. The Framework is Māori centred and whilst originally established for the addiction sector it is now informing practice across a range of mental health and social services across Aotearoa. Competent practitioners are deliberate in integrating mātauranga Māori with therapeutic intent.
Te Rau Matatini has been endorsed by Rōpū Kaitiaki Takarangi to deliver the Takarangi Framework. The following documents give background to the Framework and its system of assessment. In development are further clips that will help practitioners and services to explore the use of mātauranga Māori in the context of the mahi.
