Born in the deep south of Bluff, of Ngai Tahu whakapapa, we shifted as a whanau to Christchurch three years after my birth. I have three brothers one who passed away. Through whanau losses I entered the mental health system in 1989 to and again in 2011. In 2012 I attended Te Awa o Te Ora trust where I completed the mental health support work level four certificate at CPIT. I have been involved in local DHB work such as the DVD around changing the way seclusion is used here in Christchurch. In 2013 I was appointed to Canterbury District Health Boards Consumer Council as the mental health spokesman and I continue to do what I can locally to improve mental health outcomes. It is a privilege to be a member of Te Huarahi o Te Kete Pounamu and to bring issues and concerns from the Canterbury region.
