On the 2nd - 5th May 2018, Te Rau Matatini attended and presented at the 2018 International Association For Suicide Prevention (IASP) Asia Pacific Conference in Waitangi, in the rohe of Ngāti Rāhiri and Ngāti Kawa. The conference brought together people from wide-ranging disciplines in New Zealand, the broader Asian-Pacific region, and from around the world.
This conference provided Te Rau Matatini with many opportunities to learn and share the mahi we are doing. Presenters talked about suicide prevention research and work that is happening locally and around the world, and Te Rau Matatini kaimahi not familiar with the region also learned more about the rich history of the rohe in which the conference took place. During the conference, Te Rau Matatini shared the work that we have completed and continue to do through Waka Hourua. Dr Kahu McClintock (Research Manager, Te Rau Matatini) was invited to present on the Waka Hourua Māori Suicide Prevention Community Initiatives.
